What?!
Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I use my dial-up modem for your courses?
Modern dial-up modems have a maximum speed which cannot
handle the voice and video that is part of ILT's programming. Unfortunately, dial-up
modems are simply too slow. You will need either a DLS or a cable modem.

  • What kind of computer do I need?
Well, if you have one like this original IBM PC,
The short answer is that you need to buy a new computer!
The basic need is one which has an Internet
connection capability (ethernet card). Look on
your computer for something like this
:
If you do have this, chances are your
computer will work fine. But, just to be
on the safe side, phone our
ILT HOTLINE
(605-651.0503) and our friendly staff will
talk more with you about the specifics.

  • Will I need to by some kind of camera for my computer?
Cameras meant to plug into computers are usually referred to as webcams.
Webcams come in a variety of shapes, sizes and qualities.
Will you need one? Depends. If you are planning on participating in
one of ILT's many Christian Life Series (CLS) courses,
then you will not. In these courses, only the presenter is
on camera. If you are planning on taking one of our other courses,
then most likely you will need one.
Webcams today come with built in microphones and plug
into your computer by what is know as a USB connection.
There are many on the market now from which to choose. A quick search will
reveal the many to choose from. If you want some suggestions, just phone our
ILT HOTLINE (605-651-0503). These webcams are easy to use and will make you
feel like you are right in the classroom with the other students!

  • How much does it cost to take one of your courses?
It depends on which course(s) you take. ILT has two schools
a graduate school (Christ School of Theology) and an undergraduate school
(The Academy), and several programs in each.
In short though, if you want to take one of ILT's
Christian Life Series courses (adult Bible study-
type courses), then the cost is $50 for individuals
or $250 "site fee" for an unlimited number of learners
at one site, per course. Of course, if a church is a DTC, this service is FREE!

  • What is a DTC?
Becoming a Designated Teaching Center (DTC) is a
way that a church can partner with ILT to become a
remote "classroom" for ILT's offerings. Using their existing
resources and benevolence funding, the church joins with
the Institute to provide our programming to their
congregation. More information can be found
here.

  • Who do I contact if I want to learn more about ILT and its programs?
Sometimes it is just better to have some friendly person to
talk to, and we have several to choose form. One very good
choice is our Dean of Students, Rev. Julie Smith. You can
reach her by dialing 605-692-9337.
